Tis the Season...and all that junk

It has been quite a long time since I've posted to my blog...over 2 years since the last entry. Wow, time flies!

Well, I won't go into all that has transpired since my last post, it would not make for "must read b-l-o-g". So I'm going to start from where I am.

It's Christmastime. A time to celebrate the birth and Epiphany of the Christ Child...a time of good tidings and giving and all kinds of wonderment. People decorate their homes (inside and out), bake wonderful desserts and do tons and tons of shopping. Everyone is going to some sort of celebration at work, with friends and family. And people are collecting toys, blankets, coats or some other things to help those who are less fortunate...as if they aren't less fortunate any other time of the year...but I digress. And anyone who watches tv, reads a newspaper or magazine or listens to the radio are inundated with various sales and "gotta get" items.

Riding Metro gives me the opportunity to hear conversations, whether I want to or not. The top question I've heard in recent weeks, behind "How are you?" is "Have you finished all of your Christmas shopping?" If tresponse is "No.", the poor respondent hears admonishments of the importance of getting it done. As if there isn't enough pressure and stress in the world.

I haven't bought nary a gift for Christmas. Besides the fact that I don't have much money to spend, I don't have the desire to do any shopping. Every year I dread it more...crowds of people, some polite, some who are not. Oh yes, there's always online shopping and catalog shopping. Viable alternatives to crowded stores but I'm not really into it. Unless I'm shopping for something specific and have tons of time to mull things over, I don't feel online or catalog shopping.

My home is not decorated, except for my spring/summer wreath on my door...ha ha ha ha! I have no desire to bake either.

As much as I bitch and moan weeks prior to Christmas, I eventually change my Grinch-like ways and get into it. Truth is, I love going into stores and looking at the decorations. I get a little excited (and yes, a little anxious) when I find the gift for someone who I know would appreciate it. And yes, I love when packages are open and people are pleased. But the road to Christmas day is chockful of angst and drama and stuff.

My season begins when the day is over, leftovers are in the fridge...I can have time to exhale and really enjoy the time. ..which includes time off and post holiday sales (when I have the money).
